Olinda – Rhododendron Festival

Two night tour including Lara Yarrabee Native Gardens Wednesday 24th – Friday 26th October 2018


Departure times: Depot at 10.10am; Heatherlie Homes at 10.50am; Flagstaff Hill at 11.10am with pickups at Terang, Camperdown and Colac as required.

We will make our way to Colac where we will have a stop at the new Liberty Service Station for lunch at approx. 12.30pm.

Departing at 1.20pm we will make our way to Lilydale with comfort stops along the way for the next 2 evenings at the Lilydale Motor Inn – with a daily fully cooked breakfast and 2-course dinner included.


Departing at 10am after a hearty breakfast, we drive straight to the enchanting National Rhododendron Gardens at Olinda. Set on over 35 hectares, the garden is host to brilliantly  colored blooms of over 15,000 rhododendrons, 12,000 azaleas, 3,000 camellias, 250,000 daffodils and countless cherries. If you wish to stop and enjoy a cuppa or something to eat there is the Café Vireya onsite.

We will board the coach by 1pm for the short journey to the Olinda township to enjoy some free time. Once the home of Australian master painter Arthur Streeton, Olinda’s creative spirit is still alive and kicking.

Check out local art galleries and studios like Touchstone Craft Gallery, which sells the works of over 250 Australian master crafts people.

Browse handcrafted jewelry and fashion and local boutiques, and stock up on cooking  spices, homewares and old-fashioned sweets.

Brighten up little faces with a trip to Geppetto’s Workshop, home to countless wooden toys and puppets, games and puzzles.

Boarding the coach at 3pm we travel onto the charming village of Sassafras – discover the villages nineteenth century charm, stroll through lush English gardens, and savor an afternoon Devonshire tea at Miss Marple’s  Tearooms, an authentic English cottage inspired by Agatha Christie.

Browse through the antique stores and local specialist shops, pick up local wine and produce at Ripe or General Food store; or grab a teapot as a souvenir at Tea Leaves along with black, green and herbal teas from across the globe..

We depart Sassafras at 5pm and make our way back to our accommodation for the evening with a 2 course dinner.


This morning we have a treat instore for you – departing the motel at 9am we travel to the Lara Yarrabee Native Garden’s. Yarrabee is aboriginal for place of many gums for a tour and morning tea.

Their garden is a mixture of Australian native and exotics, with dry sunny spots and shady spots. Covering over 5 acres (or 2.5 hectares) and along with the many garden beds has a dam, waterfall and 3 ponds.

Discover the covered orchard which has over 38 fruit trees and houses strawberry beds along with loganberry, blackberry, raspberries and local Inca berries.

Lunch will be at the Lara Hotel between 1-2pm before we start the journey home arriving in Warrnambool between 5-5.30pm.

Tour Cost: $410 per person twin share, $520 per person single

$50 deposit due at time of booking, balance due 14th September 2018
